Overview United States Attorney's Office, Southern District of Texas is seeking Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Criminal Division, Houston, TX. The district covers 43 counties and 44,000 square miles, representing 8.3 million people. The office prosecutes federal criminal and civil matters, with a fast-paced and varied caseload and frequent courtroom appearances. The U.S. Attorney's Office is looking for motivated attorneys to join a dedicated team that enforces federal law, defends the interests of the United States, and ensures impartial administration of justice. Responsibilities Prosecute a variety of federally charged offenses in areas including organized crime, financial litigation, immigration, drugs, firearms, public corruption, asset forfeiture, and white-collar crime. Represent the United States in criminal and civil matters in the district; participate in trials and courtroom proceedings as needed. Work as part of a team with other AUSAs, support staff, and investigative agencies to uphold the Department's mission. As training and experience progress, assignments will increase in scope and complexity. Assist in enforcing federal laws related to border security and public safety in the Southern District of Texas. Location Houston, Texas office (Houston, TX). Qualifications Required Qualifications: J.D. degree (or equivalent) and active membership in the bar of any U.S. jurisdiction by the entry on duty date. Law school graduates and current law students taking a July 2026 bar examination may be considered, subject to requirements. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Strong academic credentials, excellent research and writing skills, ability to articulate critical issues, high-volume courtroom experience, strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a professional team environment with AUSAs, staff, and investigative agencies; courtroom experience including first-chair jury trials is preferred. Proficiency in legal research and writing and self-sufficiency in preparing day-to-day pleadings.
